Our good friend Steve Yeager decided to jump behind the wheel of the 121 again. This time he wanted to try out the dirt of OVRP. The day started out on a down note when we were informed that Steve would have to start at the rear because of his newcomer status. Unfortunately it got worse before it got better.
John Mann had the 121 ready to fly and Steve was doing well in the first warm up session until the oil line blew. Oil spewed all over the track and the car. Luckily the motor didn't blow. John cleaned it up and we sent Steve out for practice session #2. He started smoking from residual oil so they black flagged him. I knew he was frustrated and disappointed as were John and myself. John cleaned the car from top to bottom and we convinced the track to let Steve go out and get a few laps in by himself. He was fast and looked good except for the time he almost hit the wall coming out of turn 4. I closed my eyes and John ducked his head but Steve got it under control and made it through unscathed. The rest of the day was much less exciting which is good and bad. Steve was relegated to the back of the heats and feature so he went out and did the best he could. He was fast, did a great job avoiding some wrecks and he showed his potential.
We offer Steve our apologies and I hate saying it but thats racing. Thanks to John for doing a great job getting Steve back on the track and hopefully Cannock Motorsports will do better next time.
Thanks again Steve, good luck in college!
